Khandagiri Caves

Among Bhubaneswar’s oldest attractions, the Khandagiri Caves are a grouping of 15 rock-cut cave temples dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries BC. Commissioned by Kharavela, the ruler of the Meghavahana Dynasty, these caves served as a refuge for Jain monks. Nestled in the hills, the intricate carvings and inscriptions on the stone walls offer a glimpse into the region’s rich history and the spiritual practices of the time. Visitors can explore the various chambers, each with its own unique features, and admire the craftsmanship that has endured for over two millennia.
