Statue of Liberty

Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and Gustave Eiffel, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Standing 305 feet (93 meters) tall, this iconic statue guards the entrance to New York Harbor on Liberty Island. In 1924, both Lady Liberty and the surrounding land were designated as the Statue of Liberty National Monument. Visitors today can explore the island, learn about its historical significance, and take in the impressive views of the statue and the harbor.
