Built on the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the longest surviving Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the 15th-century Citadel of Qaitbay (Fort Qaitbey) stands as a postcard-pretty sea fort. Located in Alexandria, Egypt, the citadel’s battlements provide sweeping views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. Inside, a small museum houses maritime relics and aquariums, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich nautical history. Visitors can also see three pillars that are believed to date from the original lighthouse, adding a tangible link to the ancient past.
