Storyville District

Established in the late 19th century, Storyville was New Orleans’ official red-light district, notorious for its brothels, saloons, and other houses of ill repute. Located in what is now a residential area, this once-bustling neighborhood thrived until it was closed by the US government at the outset of World War I. Today, visitors can explore the site where these historic buildings once stood, now transformed into numerous housing developments, offering a glimpse into the city’s colorful and complex past.
