Park of Monsters (Parco dei Mostri)

In the mid-16th century, a prince from the noble Orsini family commissioned an architect to create an otherworldly garden, resulting in the Sacro Bosco, or Sacred Wood, more commonly known as the Park of Monsters. Nestled among the trees, giant sculptures depict a sleeping nymph, a war elephant from Hannibal’s army, dragons, and a winged Pegasus, among other fantastical creatures. Visitors today can wander through this enigmatic landscape, where each sculpture, crafted with intricate detail, invites them to explore a realm of myth and imagination.
