The Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, a ninth-century church and convent, is built over the ancient Roman home of Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music, who was martyred nearly 1,800 years ago. Inside, the basilica features shimmering mosaics and a marble statue of the saint. Visitors can also explore the underground levels, where well-preserved remains, including intact mosaic floors, offer a glimpse into the centuries-old house where Saint Cecilia likely lived.
