Kornarou Square

Kornarou Square, named for the Cretan poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, is a bright, airy space located near Heraklion Central Market. On one side, the square features the Turkish Pumphouse and the Bembo Fountain, a Venetian creation made from a Roman statue and sarcophagus. Opposite, visitors can admire sculptures of Erotokritos and Aretousa, the lovers from Kornaros’ most famous work. The square offers a blend of historical and artistic elements, providing a serene spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy.
