Koko-en Garden, located on the grounds of Himeji Castle, was constructed in 1992 to celebrate the centenary of Himeji City becoming a municipality. Spanning 3.5 hectares (8.5 acres), the garden is composed of nine distinct sections, each designed to complement the historic aesthetic of the adjacent castle. Visitors can explore a variety of traditional Japanese garden styles, from meticulously raked gravel and carefully pruned trees to serene ponds and meandering pathways. The garden’s layout invites a leisurely stroll, offering a tranquil escape with views of the imposing castle that looms above.
