The Key West Lighthouse, one of the island’s oldest structures, was first constructed in 1825 to guide ships through the perilous reefs of the Lower Keys. The current lighthouse, built in 1847, stands at 92 feet (28 meters) tall and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase to the top, where they are rewarded with a breathtaking vista. Adjacent to the lighthouse, the Keeper’s Quarters now houses a maritime museum, providing insight into the lives of the lighthouse keepers and the history of maritime navigation in the region.
