Kadifekale

Perched on a hill with a commanding view of the Gulf of Izmir, Kadifekale, or the Velvet Castle, was constructed in the 4th century BC under Alexander the Great. Over the centuries, the site has been occupied by Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans, each leaving their mark. Today, visitors can explore the towering ramparts and the ruins of a 14th-century mosque, though much of the fortified castle has not survived. The highlight remains the panoramic vista, offering a sweeping view of the surrounding landscape.
