The Buda Castle Funicular, or Budavári Sikló, has been a part of Budapest’s landscape since 1870, connecting Clark Adam Square and the Szechenyi Chain Bridge to the heights of Buda Castle. Ascending 200 feet (61 meters) up the hill, this funicular, which was the second of its kind in Europe, was destroyed during World War II and later restored, reopening in 1986. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Danube River and the western side of the city as they make their ascent.
