The Menin Gate Memorial, also known as the Ypres Memorial, stands in Ypres, Belgium, as a poignant tribute to over 54,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in the Flanders region during World War I. Many of these troops were never formally buried, and their names are inscribed on the memorial’s walls, serving as a lasting testament to their sacrifice. Visitors can walk through the gate and read the names, often participating in the daily Last Post ceremony, which honors the fallen with a bugle call at 8:00 PM.
