Alabaster Mosque (Mosque of Muhammad Ali)

The Alabaster Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, stands prominently in the citadel of Saladin, dominating Cairo’s skyline. Commissioned by Muhammad Ali, who ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1849 and is interred in a marble tomb within, the mosque took 18 years to construct, from 1830 to 1848. Modeled on classic Turkish architecture, the structure underwent a complete restoration in the 1930s.
