Taormina Old Town (Centro Storico)

Taormina’s Centro Storico, or old town, has roots tracing back to the 8th century B.C.E., with the historic core itself dating primarily from the 15th century. Nestled in the heart of the town, the centro storico is a labyrinth of picturesque cobblestone streets and beautifully preserved buildings, exuding a timeless, postcard-like charm. The main thoroughfare, Corso Umberto I, stretches from Piazza IX Aprile to Piazza del Duomo, passing through an arch in the 12th-century clock tower, which was rebuilt in the 17th century after near destruction. Today, visitors can meander through the narrow lanes, browse souvenir stores and boutiques, and savor local cuisine at the many cafes and restaurants.
