Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo)

Established in 1855 as the Madras Zoo and relocated to its current location south of Chennai in 1985, the Arignar Anna Zoological Park stands as India’s first public zoo. Spanning a vast area, it is also the largest zoo in the country, housing over 170 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. The park’s rescue center plays a crucial role in rehabilitating animals, including lions and tigers, that have been freed from exploitation. Visitors can explore diverse habitats and observe a wide array of wildlife, making it a significant destination for both education and conservation.
