Ganga Sagar (Sagar Island)

Ganga Sagar, located on Sagar Island, the largest village about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Kolkata, has been a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus for centuries. Each January, during the festival of Makar Sankranti, pilgrims from across India converge on the island to take a ceremonial bath in the sacred waters where the Ganges River merges with the Bay of Bengal. The island’s serene and spiritual atmosphere, combined with the natural beauty of the river and sea, offers visitors a unique and immersive cultural experience.
