Avenue of Sphinxes

The Avenue of Sphinxes, an ancient and imposing road in Luxor, Egypt, stretches for 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) between Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. Historically used for religious ceremonies, the avenue was once lined with approximately 1,350 sphinx statues. Recent excavations have uncovered and opened portions of the avenue near both temples, allowing visitors to walk along the same path that ancient Egyptians once tread. Today, the remaining sphinxes stand as silent guardians, their stone forms a testament to the grandeur and spiritual significance of this historic route.
