The Museum of the Word and Image, or Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen, was established in 1993 as a traveling exhibition to collect and preserve documents, stories, and photographs that chronicle the history of violence and civil rights violations during El Salvador’s years of conflict. Located in San Salvador, the museum transitioned into a permanent institution in 2003. Today, visitors can explore a rich archive of historical materials, offering a deep and poignant insight into the country’s turbulent past. The exhibits provide a detailed and moving account of the struggles and resilience of the Salvadoran people.
