In the heart of Ulaanbaatar, the Choijin Lama Temple Museum, originally known as the Choijin Lama Monastery, was built between 1904 and 1908 for the Choijin Lama, a brother of the Bogd Khaan who served as Mongolia’s state oracle. The complex houses five temples, each adorned with elaborate paintings, colorful masks, and ornate statuary, including several sculptures engaged in tantric sex. Visitors can explore the richly decorated interiors, which offer a glimpse into the spiritual and artistic traditions of early 20th-century Mongolia.
