Kaminaljuyu

Nestled within a lush green park in Guatemala City, Kaminaljuyu stands as a testament to the ancient Maya civilization, with later influences from Teotihuacán. This once-thriving city now mostly appears as earthen mounds, but visitors can still explore the ruins of the acropolis and a ball court, both sheltered under protective roofing. The site’s rich history is partially obscured by the modern urban landscape, which has enveloped much of the ancient city. Today, visitors can walk through the park and imagine the grandeur of this former metropolis, piecing together its past from the preserved structures and the surrounding greenery.
