Ajloun Castle

Ajloun Castle, perched on top of Mount ‘Auf, offers commanding views over the Jordan Valley. Built in the 12th century by a general under Saladin, the first sultan of Egypt and Syria, the castle has a storied history of destruction and reconstruction. Originally constructed to deter Crusader attacks, it later served to defend iron mines and vital trade routes. The castle was also part of an innovative beacon and pigeon communication network. Today, visitors can explore its robust stone walls and strategic layout, gaining insight into its historical significance and the defensive strategies of the past.
