Venetian Shipyards

Set slightly back from the Old Venetian Harbor of Heraklion, the Venetian Shipyards stand as a testament to the city’s maritime history. Four high-vaulted tunnels, arranged side by side towards the southern end of the harbor, and a newer tunnel to the east, are all that remain. The impressive scale of these structures, with their towering arches, provides a vivid sense of the size of the Venetian ships that once filled the harbor. Today, visitors can explore these historic tunnels, imagining the bustling activity and the grand vessels that were once built and repaired here.
