Turnagain Arm

Just south of Anchorage, the Turnagain Arm is a branch of the Cook Inlet, celebrated for its dramatic high tides and abundant marine life. The 50-mile (80-kilometer) stretch of the Seward Highway that runs along the arm from Anchorage to Portage Glacier offers one of Alaska’s most scenic drives. Visitors can witness the ebb and flow of the tides, spot whales and other wildlife, and enjoy access to numerous outdoor activities. The rugged coastline, framed by mountains, provides a striking backdrop for both leisurely drives and more adventurous pursuits.
