Tongass National Forest

Named after the Tongass clan of the Tlingit Indians, the Tongass National Forest spans an impressive 17 million acres across Southeast Alaska, making it the largest forest in the U.S. and the world’s largest temperate rainforest. This vast expanse includes the Alaskan capital, Juneau, and the striking Mendenhall Glacier. Visitors can explore a landscape rich with towering evergreens, misty fjords, and abundant wildlife. The forest’s dense, lush environment offers a variety of experiences, from hiking through ancient forests to observing glaciers up close.
