Submarine l’Espadon

Submarine l’Espadon, built in 1958 and launched in 1960, holds the distinction of being France’s first submarine to travel under ice. With a crew of 65 living in its cramped quarters, the vessel logged an impressive 360,547 nautical miles, equivalent to 17 times around the Earth’s circumference. Today, visitors can step aboard to experience the tight spaces and gain insight into the daily lives of the submariners who navigated the depths of the ocean.
