St. Simeon Monastery

On the west bank of the Nile, facing Aswan, the 7th-century St. Simeon Monastery, also known as Anba Hatre, stands as a testament to early Christian monasticism. The brick-and-stone structure, more reminiscent of a fortress than a place of worship, has been abandoned since the 13th century. Visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins, from the church to the monks’ cells, which offer a vivid glimpse into the daily life and practices of the ancient monastic community.
