Rome Jewish Ghetto (Ghetto Ebraico di Roma)

Though the Rome Jewish Ghetto was officially abolished in 1882, the neighborhood remains the heart of Rome’s Jewish community, the oldest in Italy. The 19th-century synagogue, which houses the Jewish Museum of Rome, stands as a central landmark, surrounded by narrow, winding lanes filled with kosher restaurants and markets. Visitors can also explore ancient ruins within the area, such as the Portico of Octavia, the Theater of Marcellus, and the enigmatic Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth).
