Roman Docks Museum (Musée des Docks Romains)

Nestled in Marseille’s 2nd Arrondissement, between the City Hall and the Cathedral, the Roman Docks Museum stands on the site of an ancient Roman warehouse discovered in 1947. Opened in 1963 and renovated in 1987, the museum is one of the few still-used commercial warehouses from the Roman era in France, designated as a Historic Monument. The exhibits center around 20 Roman shipwrecks found nearby, and visitors can explore preserved relics such as 30 large jars from the Roman Empire, along with walls and wells from medieval homes, all carefully conserved with the help of archaeologist Fernand Benoit.
