Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka

The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are nestled in the Vindhyan Hills of west-central Madhya Pradesh, near Bhopal. This expansive site encompasses about 700 caves and shelters, adorned with some of India’s oldest rock art, dating back to the Late Paleolithic Period, approximately 30,000 years ago. The walls feature sketches of mythical animals, dance and battle scenes, Hindu gods, and human figures, providing a vivid glimpse into the lives and beliefs of early human inhabitants.
