Rocinha

Pouring down a hillside in Rio’s South Zone, Rocinha is Brazil’s largest favela, covering 1 square mile and home to around 180,000 residents. This densely packed neighborhood is a colorful maze of cement buildings and tin roofs, reflecting the challenging socioeconomic conditions of its inhabitants. Despite these challenges, Rocinha has a rich culture and history, and is currently experiencing a renaissance.
