River Plate (Rio de la Plata)

Forming part of the border between Argentina and Uruguay, the Rio de la Plata is an expansive estuary stretching 180 miles (290 km). It is created by the confluence of the Uruguay and Paraná Rivers, and its waters have a rich history. Spanish navigators explored the area multiple times, eventually naming it the River of Silver due to the promise of wealth believed to lie upstream. Today, visitors can experience the vast, silvery expanse of the estuary, which offers a unique blend of riverine and marine environments, making it a significant natural and historical landmark in the region.
