Nestled in Santiago’s historical district, the Red House, or Casa Colorada, stands as a rare architectural gem from the Spanish Colonial period. Completed in 1779 for Don Mateo de Toro y Zambrano, known as the ‘Count of the Conquest,’ this squat stone structure has withstood centuries of earthquakes and fires. Its thick-walled corridors and sturdy rooms have long served as a gathering place for Chilean politicians and VIPs. Today, the building houses the Museo de Santiago, which features dioramas highlighting key moments in Chilean history. Currently, the Red House is closed for renovation.
