Pucará de Tilcara

Perched on a hilltop just outside the village of Tilcara in Jujuy province, the Pucará de Tilcara is a pre-Inca fortification that dates back to the 10th century AD. As the only publicly accessible archaeological site within the Humahuaca Ravine, it offers sweeping views over the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Designated as a National Monument, the site allows visitors to explore its ancient stone structures and learn about the region’s rich history. Today, travelers can walk through the ruins, imagining the lives of the people who once inhabited this strategic location.
