Constructed in the first century, the Pont du Gard is a three-tiered Roman aqueduct bridge that stands nearly 160 feet (49 meters) tall. Located near Avignon, France, this ancient engineering marvel was part of a 31-mile (50-kilometer) network that transported water from the Eure source to Nîmes, supplying bathhouses, fountains, and patrician villas. Today, visitors can admire the intricate stonework and the sheer scale of the structure, which is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
