Piombi

Hidden beneath the roof of the Doge’s Palace in Venice, the Piombi is a secret attic prison that once held impenetrable cells. This labyrinth of corridors, named for the lead (piombo in Italian) used in the roof, offers a glimpse into the darker side of Venetian history. Today, visitors can explore this fascinating and lesser-known part of the palace, accessible only through private tours. The Piombi provides a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the somber, confined spaces where prisoners were once held.
