Phimeanakas

Phimeanakas, located at the heart of the Royal Enclosure in Angkor Thom, served as the king’s private temple. Constructed primarily from rust-colored laterite rock and accented with sandstone, the temple rises in three stepped tiers, symbolizing the sacred Hindu mountain, Mt. Meru. Though it once boasted a golden spire, today visitors can explore its intricate stone layers and imagine the grandeur that surrounded the royal palace complex. The temple’s design and historical significance offer a glimpse into the spiritual and political life of the Khmer Empire.
