Octagon House

Designed in 1799 by William Thornton, the historic federal-style Octagon House was one of the first homes built in Washington DC. Commissioned by Colonel John Tayloe III, a wealthy Virginia landowner, the house has undergone several renovations and was established as a museum in 1970. Today, visitors can explore the building through limited guided tours and self-guided visits, offering a glimpse into the early architectural and historical heritage of the nation’s capital.
