The Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, one of Sardinia’s most significant archaeological sites, is located near Alghero. Carved into the sandstone, these 38 burial chambers, known as domus de janas or ‘fairy houses,’ date back to 4200 BC. Visitors can explore the site and observe Neolithic engravings, including bull’s horns, false doors, and other mysterious designs. The chambers offer a tangible connection to the ancient past, allowing visitors to step into a world of early human rituals and beliefs.
