Monte Fort (Fortaleza do Monte)

Built by the Jesuits to repel potential sea attacks, Monte Fort (Fortaleza do Monte) stands as the oldest military fortification on the Macau peninsula. Despite its cannons and defense preparations, the fort saw only one significant military engagement—an unsuccessful raid by the Dutch in 1622. Today, visitors can explore this historic site, which offers a glimpse into Macau’s strategic past and the defensive measures once deemed necessary to protect the city.
