Originally constructed in the 18th century, the Mole Vanvitelliana, also known as the Lazzaretto of Ancona, served as a combined hospital for lepers, warehouse, and defensive outpost. Designed by architect Luigi Vanvitelli, this massive pentagonal complex is situated on an artificial island in the Ancona harbor, connected to the mainland by three small bridges. Today, the building houses the Omero Tactile State Museum and regularly hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions and performances, making it a vibrant cultural hub in the city.
