Milodon Cave, or Cueva del Milodón, is a Chilean Natural Monument and a site of significant paleontological interest located near Puerto Natales. In 1896, German explorer Eberhard Hermann discovered the fur and bones of a Mylodon, an extinct giant ground sloth, within its spacious chambers. Today, visitors can explore the cave and visit a small museum that houses displays and information about the Mylodon and other prehistoric creatures that once roamed the area. The cave’s cool, damp interior and the surrounding Patagonian landscape provide a vivid backdrop for understanding the region’s rich prehistoric past.
