Built in 351 BC, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was a magnificent temple of gleaming marble and finely carved columns, standing 164 feet (50 meters) tall. It served as the tomb of King Mausolus and was crowned with a marble sculpture of a four-horse chariot. As one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it was the grandest mausoleum of its time.
