Mahamuni Buddha Temple

Nestled at the foot of Mandalay Hill in Myanmar, the Mahamuni Buddha Temple stands as a venerable sanctuary that reveres the Mahamuni, or Great Sage, manifestation of the Buddha. The temple’s most significant feature is a 12.5-foot (3.8-meter) tall, timeworn Buddha statue, which predates the conquest of Arakan. This ancient statue, housed within the pagoda, draws both local devotees and visitors. Today, pilgrims and tourists can observe the daily rituals and the intricate gold leaf application to the statue, creating a layered, gilded surface that reflects centuries of veneration.
