Established in 1996, Los Cardones National Park in Salta Province, Argentina, was created to preserve the unique high-elevation vegetation of the colorful sierras and dry gorges. The park’s name comes from the distinctive column-like cactus plants, known as cardones, that dominate the landscape. These cacti, along with a variety of other flora, thrive in the high-altitude climate. Visitors can explore the diverse ecosystem, which is home to over 100 species of birds and a range of other wildlife. The park offers a chance to experience the natural beauty and biodiversity of this rugged, arid region.
