Laguna Grande, located in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, is one of only three places on the island where bioluminescent plankton can be consistently observed. Surrounded by mangroves, the lagoon appears unremarkable during the day, blending into the tropical coastline. However, as night descends, the waters transform into a glowing pool, illuminated by the bioluminescent pyrodinium bahamense. These microscopic plankton, thriving in the shallow Caribbean waters, emit a fluorescent glow when disturbed, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle for visitors to witness.
