Kapaau

Kapaau

Kapaau, a small village on the northern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island, holds a significant place in Hawaiian history as the birthplace of King Kamehameha. The town’s main highlight is the original King Kamehameha statue, which stands in front of the visitor center. Crafted in Florence in 1880, the statue has a remarkable story: it was lost in a shipwreck off the coast of the Falkland Islands and remained submerged for 32 years before being recovered. Today, visitors can admire this historic bronze figure, a testament to both the resilience of the statue and the enduring legacy of King Kamehameha.
