Kabaka’s Palace (Lubiri)

Built in 1885, Kabaka’s Palace, also known as Lubiri, stands as the historic official residence of the Buganda king in Kampala, Uganda. The palace’s classic facade, now restored, conceals a more somber history: its subterranean storage tunnels were used to incarcerate political prisoners following a 1966 military coup. Today, visitors can explore the grounds, where chilling reminders of the Idi Amin dictatorship still linger, offering a glimpse into a significant yet tumultuous period of Ugandan history.
