Jallianwala Bagh

Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden in the northern city of Amritsar, is a site of profound historical significance. On April 13, 1919, it was the scene of a tragic event where the British Indian Army opened fire on a gathering of unarmed civilians, many of whom were celebrating the Sikh festival of Baisakhi. The massacre claimed the lives of hundreds and left a lasting impact on India’s struggle for independence. Today, visitors can walk through the garden, see the Martyrs’ Well where many tried to escape the gunfire, and pay their respects at the Flame of Liberty memorial, which stands as a poignant reminder of the incident.
