Iztaccihuatl

Visible on the horizon from Mexico City, Iztaccíhuatl is a dormant volcano and Mexico’s third-highest peak, standing at 17,159 feet (5,230 meters). The name Iztaccíhuatl, meaning ‘white woman’ in Nahuatl, reflects its resemblance to a sleeping woman. Hiking excursions to the summit are popular, offering hikers panoramic views of the neighboring Popocatépetl volcano and the expansive Valley of Mexico. The climb, while challenging, rewards visitors with a unique perspective of the region’s dramatic landscape.
