Hjálparfoss

Hjálparfoss, a waterfall located at the confluence of the Þjórsá and Fossá rivers, cascades over a 31-foot (10-meter) basalt cliff. The surrounding landscape, characterized by lava fields, is a result of eruptions from the nearby Hekla volcano, one of Iceland’s most active. During the warmer months, visitors can observe Icelandic horses grazing in the lush grasslands that border the rugged terrain. The combination of the waterfall’s dramatic drop and the volcanic landscape creates a striking natural setting for exploration.
